KP Govt Free Solar Scheme 2024: Eligibility & Application

Following the Punjab government’s solar scheme, the Chief Minister of KP has also initiated a similar program, and the finalization stage is currently being processed.

Objectives of the Scheme

The KPK Free Solar Panels Scheme has several key objectives addressing the pressing energy needs of low-income households in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

By providing free solar panel systems, the government is helping these families meet their basic energy needs without the burden of additional costs.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government announced to provide free solar panels to 100,000 needy households in the province.

The scheme is designed to improve energy access for households, especially those in areas with frequent load-shedding or limited access to the national grid.

Eligibility Criteria of KP’s Solar Panels Scheme

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established very simple criteria to make it easier for the public which is laid down as:

• Residency: The applicant must be a resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
• Electricity Consumption: Households should consume up to 500 units of electricity per month.
• Financial Status: The household must not be indebted to any bank or financial institution.
• Identity Verification: The household must possess a Pakistani identity card (CNIC) with a permanent address in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
• Existing Solar Systems: Households that already have solar systems installed are not eligible for this scheme.
• Financial Assistance Programs: Households currently receiving financial assistance under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) or the Ehsaas Program are excluded from eligibility.

Required Documents for Registration

• Scanned copy of CNIC: The CNIC must show a permanent address in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
• Recent electricity bills: These bills demonstrate the household’s electricity consumption (typically from the last six months)
• Mobile phone number: A valid mobile number is required for communication purposes during the registration and installation process.
• Proof of property ownership: If the applicant is not the property owner, they must provide a consent form from the owner.
• Financial documents: These documents (bank statements, salary slips, etc.) may be required to assess the financial stability of the household.

How to Apply for KP’s Solar Panels Scheme

• Wait for the official registration process to begin: The government is expected to launch the registration process within the next month. Stay updated for official announcements regarding the start date and registration details.
• Complete the registration through designated banks: According to current updates, the registration will be conducted through banks nominated by the government. However, this procedure is not final yet and may be subject to change.

What is Included in the Scheme

The government is covering the basic solar equipment needed to run the daily used appliances in a home.

• Solar Panels: The primary component that captures sunlight and converts it into electricity.
• Inverter: This device converts the direct current (DC) generated by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) for household use.
• Wiring Equipment: Necessary wiring and connectors to ensure the solar system is safely connected.
• Bulbs: Energy-efficient bulbs are provided to help households utilize the generated solar power effectively.
• Fans: DC fans are included as part of the system to enhance comfort in the home.
• Battery Storage: While not explicitly mentioned in all sources, some references indicate that battery storage may also be part of the system.

Comparing the Punjab and KP Solar Panels Scheme

Punjab: Providing solar systems to over 200,000 households in partnership with the World Bank. It includes 1 kW solar system with two panels, batteries, an inverter, and wiring for one fan and three LED bulbs

KPK: Distributing free solar panels to 100,000 households in the first phase. It includes 2 kW solar setup including panels, batteries, DC fans, and inverters
